SCORE MORE Business Advice with SCORE Small Business Counselors

Are you considering starting your own business? Do you already own a small business but have questions about which way to turn? If so, the Fenton Regional Chamber of Commerce now offers SCORE, a free service that pairs experienced business counselors with start-up and existing small businesses to encourage long-term success.

What is SCORE

  • SCORE "Counselors to Americas Small Business"
  • Mission: To provide resources and expertise to maximize the success of existing and emerging small businesses
  • SCORE volunteers are successful entrepreneurs and executives who love business and want to share their knowledge so you can succeed too.
  • SCORE mentors entrepreneurs through one on one business advisory sessions on a full range of business topics either through face-to-face, online, or telephone. They also offer workshops and seminars.
  • SCORE has 389 Chapters with 10,500 volunteers nationwide. Both working and retired executives and business owners donate time and expertise as business counselors.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How much time is involved?
    • 3 types of counselors: face-to-face, online, or 30 minute telephone session, 3-5 sessions a month
  • What is the application process?
    • All new SCORE volunteers participate in an orientation and training program so they understand the SCORE mission, services, and opportunities for volunteer participation. Orientation also provides guidance on how to become a business counselor.
    • Upon joining, each new volunteer receives a SCORE guide and a monthly newsletter of chapter activities. Referrals are made to the volunteer depending upon the business issue, you can choose to mentor either face to face, online, or by phone sessions.
